Welcome. Are you looking for great printables and ideas for your students in Special Education, Preschool or Kindergarten? Do you teach in a Special School, special class, regular school with some students who have special needs? Maybe you teach children at home in the early years of schooling or perhaps have a child with autism or intellectual impairment? Then this is the site for you.
Hi I’m Ann
Hello and welcome to my blog. I am so excited that you are visiting my site.
About me …
I have been a teacher in the special education sector since 2005. I trained in Australia passing my 4 year Bachelor of Education (Special education) degree in 2004. Two years later I completed a Post Graduate Diploma (1 year full time study) in Early Years Learning, focusing on 4-5 year olds.
I moved back to New Zealand (my home country) with my husband Kevin and my son Bronson in 2017. We love being back closer to family and life long friends. I currently enjoy working in a Special School in the North Island.
All of my career has been spent teaching juniors in self contained special schools (or units) teaching students from ages of 3 to 10. I love it. You never quite know what they will do next. My current group are a lovely lively group of 8 turning 9 year olds. All have significant to profound intellectual impairment and, all have autism.
My philosophy is all kids can learn. We need to have high, individualised expectations for our students. Some need more support, adaptations and time than others to learn and utilise their skills.
Communication, social skills and learning to be independent are the key aspects of my teaching day. This is a focus as we learn English, Maths, aspects of Science and Health and Physical Education. My learning assistants and I wear Core Language Boards all day and I utilise a large core board on my wall constantly. I love to use song and movement, all throughout the day. Teaching and learning must be fun for all.
On my site …
I will be sharing many free printables to support your teaching because lets face it, we all spend a fortune on our students. Isn’t it nice to have a location where you can receive something for free? Many will feature Songs, Core Communication, aspects of 4 Blocks of Literacy especially adapted books, positive behaviour support strategies and maths.
I will also have a store in the future, where you can purchase some different or larger quality products. In the mean time I will also list some products for purchase through Teachers Pay Teachers. You can visit my store Aroha Special Ed here. I also have a Pinterest site which you can visit by clicking on any picture on my pages or the ‘p’ symbol at the top or bottom of the page.
Each week I will write a newsletter to inform of the new printable freebies. I would love for you to join as a subscriber to catch up with all the latest directly into your mailbox. You will never have to miss a freebie again.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy exploring the site. Thanks for visiting.
